1. The thin line of a distant island that seems to stretch into a narrow line across the hori-
zon forms the extreme context
2. The intermediate context is the band of purple water that almost forms a half circle
between the boat and the horizon
.
3. The poles and the bushes form the near/immediate context..
Together, they “keep” the viewer’s eye on the boat.
