We met Marianne through another model—she simply showed up alongside Devon
one day. The connection between the two women produced images that remain
among the most erotic I have ever seen, despite the fact that neither woman
was nude. I found Marianne intriguing, so when she returned to Greensboro the
following summer, I invited her to model. Sensuous, sensual, alluring, captivating,
she commanded the attention of the camera. During the shoot we debated her future
as a model—she asserted she was happy with her body and would not lose weight. If
that is what it would take to be successful, then she didn’t want it. The images from
that day are among the most compelling I have ever created. As I look at them now,
they still move me deeply. We never worked with her again.
