Her presence was compelling, and her eyes, well, they looked into me and held me
still and quiet. Our connection was immediate. After our initial session, several
intense and very personal emails passed between us. There were no secrets. Each
time we worked together the images became deeper, more powerful. Then just before
the fourth session, Ana emailed me to tell me that she was married and wanted only
a “professional relationship”—which it always had been, despite the depth of our
connection. I immediately pulled back. At our last shoot in October, the pain this
distance brought her was clearly visible in her eyes. We would work together just one
more time after that, two years later, and I confess it pained me deeply.
