Analysis:
1. The brightest white or highlights are over the bed - there is a
light in the ceiling and the white of the comforter “pushes” a dis-
proportionate amount of light up.
2. This made the corner behind the model even darker to the eye
of the camera (this will make more sense when we talk about in-
terpolation in the next chapter).
So, the volume of light in the room can be divided into two “con-
tainers” - one from the top of the bed up and the other from the
top of the bed to the floor.
1. Increasing the intensity of light above the top of the comforter
would have made the problem worse since the floor would have
been darkened and detail in the floor lost.
2. Lighting the model wouldn’t fix the dark floor and it would have
created (a) harsh shadows behind her and (b) it would have made
it harder if not impossible to get the detail in the bright areas of
the wood floor.
