The “blackest blacks” were here. Without the light
from the reflector, this area would have been so black
that Anna's shoes would not have been visible. Anna's
hand wouldn't have been visible either.
The floor was a problem as well. It was highly pol-
ished; and, as a result I had to be very careful how
light hit this area. The floor is beautiful, and I wanted
as much of that detail as possible.
I could have moved the cord to the lamp. I decided
not to because I felt it added to the sense that she
was cornered and afraid.
Lit correctly, I could keep the shadows under her
dress as well.
