As is often the case, the area under furniture is where the
“blackest blacks” can be found. This area was 4 F-stops be-
low the area around the window and Carolyne-Marie’s face. By
rendering this space within 1-2 F-stops, the whole sense of the
space to the camera changes. The shadows under the furniture
look natural - much as the human eye would see them. There
is abundant detail in the floor, even in the shadows. The grain
in the wood and the decorative pattern are clearly visible.
This wouldn’t have been possible were it not for the Profoto
B2 location kit and the Photoflex 7-in-1 Multi Disc Reflector. I
used the soft gold fabric on the reflector to add some warmth
to the scene.
