This was the most problematic area for me to
address, not that the others lacked complexity.
However, this was where I had some of the dark-
est grays and the whitest whites (see the rectan-
gular area framed with dots). Potentially, over the
distance of a few inches, this told me I could be
facing a difference of 4 F-stops. This is a potential-
ly major problem.
I was also concerned that given where I would
have to place my lights - to my right and left - that
I might make the problem worse by having one of
my lights “bounce” off the hot spot and make the
problem worse. This told me that I would have to
keep the lights at a sharp angle to one another.
I knew this would create - potentially - another
problem. I wanted to make sure I duplicated the
natural shadows from the angle of the sun through
the windows. If I was unable to do that, I would
create complex, overlapping shadows. In addition
to creating a very unnatural look, this would have
multiplied my lighting problems.
