With the light coming over Nikki’s
right shoulder, most of her body, at
least the part facing the camera, was
four F-stops darker than the side fac-
ing the window.
I knew I would have to bring the light
from the strobe to my left across her
body - effectively passing between me
and Nikki. Aside from the potential
problems caused by too much light
passing into the camera lens without
my knowing it, I didn’t want to lose
the sense that this image was created
using only ambient light. So, the shad-
ows had to look like they were the re-
sult of the light coming through the
window and not from the strobes.
I quickly discovered that the strobes
alone were not going to be enough.
The lower right corner of this section
was too dark. Almost black. The lower
left part of the section to the right was
likewise too dark. I knew I could fix
most of that in post processing, but
that is never the best solution.
