        the actual head at 45 degrees up. They were at about 50% power - enough to
        remove shadows and add warmth but not enough to overwhelm the scene or
        create overlapping shadows.
        The B4 on the left was positioned so that it would come across Nikki’s left side
        - the side away from the light of the window. For this to work, the outer third
        of the “beam” needed to cross just over her shoulder. The B4 on the right was
        set parallel to the front of the settee. My goal was to break the light from the
        other B4 about a foot to the right of Nikki’s face (the point of impact is labeled
        ). I needed to make sure as little light as possible struck the wall behind her.
        As I expected, this forced light softly around the side of her face away from the
        window and down onto her dress and crossed legs. I used a black lens on the
        left (to soften and diffuse the light) and a red one on the right (to keep the light
        more concentrated).
        Remember, the goal is to collapse the difference between black and white.                           | 29
