  • “The Myst and The Tree” (NF199322-SF) Location: Gold Hill, NC.

It was as though we - Lew Brown and I - were out on one of our photography trips - stepped out of our cars into a world of dark, ghostly shapes that only emerged momentarily from the shadows of the myst. Despite the pretense of a fall morning, the air was heavy, wet, and the myst seemed to drape over the buildings around us and touch the ground. Everywhere there were trees, stripped of leaves, barren and forgotten, whose limbs stretched like long thin fingers into the myst. A vintage Pentax 6x7 lens was used. Not sure which one to purchase? • “The Otherside” (NF199318-SF) Location: Gold Hill, NC.

It was as though we - Lew Brown and I were out on one of our photography trips - stepped out of our cars into a world of dark, ghostly shapes that only emerged momentarily from the shadows of the mist. Despite the pretense of a fall morning, the air was heavy, wet, and the mist seemed to drape over the barn and touch the ground. On the edge of complete neglect, the barn seemed covered in sadness and grief in the face of forgottenness. Now, more than an hour into our shoot, my feet were as wet as the grass. I followed the mist that seemed to swirl around the barn to the other side. A vintage Pentax 6x7 lens was used. Not sure which one to purchase? Click here.

    “LTD” (NF197826-16-A-SFx)

Location: Somewhere near Hanging Rock, NC.

I found this old Ford LTD, ca 1965, by a roadside tobacco barn somewhere near the North Carolina/Virginia border. Caught out of the corner of my eyes as I drove past, I had to quickly turn around and go back to the barn. In its day, this car was expensive, a sign of success and achievement. Now, it slowly dies, and one day, only rust and glass will remain. I shall never understand how something beautiful - a car, a building, any object once treasured, could be left neglected, to perish in neglect. My heart raced as I approached the car. Such stops are dangerous. No trespassing signs are to be taken seriously in these places. Just being on these properties can be met with gunshot or hostile dogs. I often leave the car door open and the engine running - just in case. As much as I wanted to photography the car from the other side, something just didn’t feel right, so, I trusted my instincts and moved on. A vintage Pentax 6x7 lens was used.. • Ask anyone where Mortimer, NC is, and they will likely tell you that they haven't a clue. For a very brief period of time, Mortimer was home to a mill driven by water power. Now, it is no more than a collection of abandoned concrete walls. This brook is behind the walls of an otherwise ruined building. There is a deep sense of loss, of mystery, of abandonment. Why would someone spend so much time and money and walk away? Mortimer is a place of unanswered questions. This tree stands behind the four remaining walls of what was once the main building. All of our prints are made using archival/museum quality paper and ink. We feature Innova fine art papers. This image is 12"x18" and is available is a number of papers.
