succeeding were small. While Nikki went to check her makeup, I made
every effort to remember times past when I had worked on the land-
ing. Perhaps, I thought, this would give me insight into how to work
with Nikki.
I had worked on the landing before, at almost this exact time and sea-
son, and I was never really pleased with what I got. Well, once with
the model called isis, I was able to create some incredible images here,
but, isis and Nikki were two very different women. isis was smaller,
blonde, and her skin reflects a lot of light. Despite having only two
remotely fired flashes, I was able to balance the light. Nikki was taller
and her darker skin reflected much more light than it absorbed.
Then I remembered that I hadn’t ever photographed isis on the settee.
I had photographed her by the window and on the stairs. I had photo-
graphed Innana here, successfully, but at a very different time of day
and season. Almost as tall as Nikki but pale skinned and highly reflec
