After we worked in the Gentlemen's Parlor, we moved into the large, open area at the base of the
grand staircase. These photos were taken in that large, open area. We have worked here many times,
and each time, we experienced all manner of problems. Here are just a few:
Strobes don't push enough light down the corridors so the area behind Marquaysa,
our model, is almost always too dark.
In the late afternoon, light from the leaded glass windows streaks across the floor and
often can be seen on the columns. Usually, in order to get the visual effect from the
leaded glass, we need to under light the scene. Here, with the Cine Reflector, we were
able recreate with the camera the way the scene looked to the human eye. Note the
pattern of lights on the floor under Marquaysa and on the wall behind her.
I was very concerned about her pant suit. The lame was so shiny I was afraid there
would be terrible hot spots. Interestingly, the patterns of reflection matched the angle
of the light from the upstairs windows.
As you can see from these images, we were able to overcome these problems. We will take another
look at using two Cine Reflectors in the next edition.
