In November 2014, I planned a trip to the
cotton-growing area in northeastern
North Carolina. I wanted to shoot the
cotton farms and the harvesting process.
As with all my safaris, I spent a good bit
of time just exploring without a specific
agenda. At the end of this trip, as I made my
way back home, I decided to drive through the
cities of Weldon and Roanoke Rapids, which
lie near the Virginia/North Carolina state
lines. I had never visited these cities. They
are part of Halifax County, which was formed
in 1758.
