Unlike Savannah's Bonaventure Cemetery which counts
among its "occupants" the likes of Johnnie Mercer, and liter-
ary references in books like "Midnight in the Garden of Good
and Evil" that have made it a tourist destination, Laurel Grove
is largely forgotten. Though Juliette Lowe, founder of the Girl
Scouts, is buried there with a number of Savannah's most
prominent people from times past, the cemetery is quickly fall-
ing into disarray. Many of the oldest crypts are literally falling
apart and several are little more than rubble now.
We have rarely seen anyone else when we have visited
this cemetery. If you are going to Savannah, you can find this
museum on the west side of town, not far from the historic
waterfront.
Add it to your list of places to visit.
