WELCOME!
As 2012 comes to an end, we thought we would take a look at some of the most im-
portant innovations of the year. There have been many. In fact, the pace of change
in the technology world has not lessened. The products we review here represent a
small number of those that have occurred.
Some of the products, like GigaPan’s Gigapixel, are relatively new. Others, like
Queensberry, have been in the market for more than a generation. Some, like DxO
Labs, have broken new ground with established software... But for all these products,
there is a single, unifying, thread: Each in its own way has enhanced our work, and
in the case of GigaPan, DxO Labs, and Wacom, these new products have allowed us
to expand our horizons—and in the process, we have been freed to take our work to
a higher level. We returned from Photo Plus Expo having seen a new backpack that
will set a new high watermark for carrying your gear into “the wild.” We post exclu-
sive photos here in this issue.
With the persistent pace of change, competitive pressure has not decreased and
2012 has been a year of change. Queensberry has adopted new strategies that have
expanded its presence in the market, and a new platform released this year has tak-
en that firm’s tradition into the digital age. Amidst a decreasing need for printed
material, Innova has released a new breed of papers that has given new life to the
phrase “fine art prints.” In 2012, X-Rite’s color management tools, rewritten from
the ground up, became the twine that binds together everything we do.
We are pleased and proud to feature each of these products in this issue of
NyghtVision.
