                                    Anatomy of Fresnel Technology

Working with Fresnel lenses took some getting used

to. A soft box generally diffuses light evenly or nearly
evenly over its entire surface. A Fresnel lens does not.

The inner third, or core, remains relatively cohesive
and consistent over a given distance. The more pow-

erful the setting on the strobe, the longer the core

remains consistent and cohesive - or so it seems.

The outer third on each side of the core appears to

diffuse in a "pattern" similar to that of a traditional
                           soft box.

My goal is to break the outer edge of the core. This
softens the harsh light of the lens while leaving its

                           emotional power in tact.
